How to Camp in the Winter

If you love bringing your tent around and camping basically anywhere and anytime, then the weather wouldn’t usually be a hindrance for you.  Camping during the winter season definitely has its perks, but it can also cause a lot of hassle if you are not adequately prepared.

Today, we will give you a couple of things that you should remember when camping in the winter. From buying your own Blizzard Black Pearl winter clothing to knowing what to eat, we have got it all covered for you.

Pick the Right Spot

You definitely would want to pick the right spot when going camping in the winter, as you cannot just pitch your tent anywhere and call it a day. Always choose a spot that is sheltered from strong winds and the rain, as you never know when it can pour out.

You’d also want to make sure that you will stay clear from a possible avalanche, so do you research firsthand or ask your guide where it is safe to pitch the tent.

Bring Lots of Food and Water

The last thing that you’d want to happen is to get stuck in a very cold and freezing area without any food or water on hand. Make sure to eat before setting up camp and fill your tummy with calories that can fuel you up for the day.

Additionally, make sure to pack your bag with bottles of water and food that you can eat on the spot. Don’t forget to hydrate yourself throughout the day, which you can easily forget since it’s cold.

Bring the Right Gear

You definitely have to pack the essentials for your camping trip: a sturdy tent that can withhold strong winds, a sleeping bag that can keep you warm throughout the night, a least two sleeping pads, and a small stove that you can cook in or boil water in during the course of your camping trip.

Keep yourself Warm

You would also want to make sure that you will keep yourself warm by choosing the right type of winter camping clothes. Buy some midweight base layers, a puffy coat, pants that can keep you warm, additional fleece pants, and a waterproof jacket in case it rains.

You should also pack a few pairs of socks, some gloves for your hands, a hat, and a pair of sunglasses or goggles to shield your eyes.

Learn how to Avoid Getting Sick

The cold weather can easily freeze you up, which is why it is important to research on how you can avoid getting frostbite and hypothermia while camping. You might not have a hospital near your camping area, which is why you should do everything in your power to avoid getting sick.

You can bring a first-aid kit and some medicines to keep you on your feet while treading the icy mountains.

Exercise

You can do a few jumping jacks to keep you warm during the night. Keep your blood flowing and your body perspiring so you would not have to worry about getting too cold when sleeping. You can also boil some water on your stove and prepare some hot tea or chocolate for yourself to keep your body warm.

Camping sure is fun, but you have to be responsible to make sure that nothing bad will happen to you and the rest of your camping crew. Always do your research and prepare beforehand so you can be all set for winter camping!
